The former Kate Middleton smashed home a goal Thursday as she played a bit of field hockey while visiting the British Olympic women's team at Olympic Park. The Duchess of Cambridge, who captained the hockey team at her high school, Marlborough College, took the field in a morale-boosting mission ahead of the July 27-Aug. 12 London games.

The former Kate Middleton was out promoting the Olympics on Thursday and stopped by for a little field hockey with the British women's team. But faced with the opportunity to take a couple shots, she under-promoted her skill.
'This is going to be so embarrassing,' she said. 'My brain thinks I can do all these wonderful things but my body just doesn't play ball.'
None of the journalists, team members or fans on hand at Olympic Park bought it though, considering how well known her resume is around her home country. Kate captained her field hockey team at Marlborough College, but pressed the point that she hadn't touched a stick in some time.
'I was really looking forward to coming here, but now I am here and have discovered I have to play, I am not feeling so confident,' she said.
If she was trying not to stand out, the ensemble that included salmon-colored jeans against the bright blue field was not helping. Still, Kate squared up and ripped shots into the back of the net like she was in midseason form. It was enough to impress the current captain.
'She told me that she missed playing as part of a team,' Kate Walsh said. 'She also told me that she used to hit the penalty corners and you could see that. She got low and her shots were really sweet.'

Kate Middleton takes a powerful turn on the turf this morning - the Duchess showed off her strong hockey swing during a visit with Great Britain's men's and women's Olympic teams. TresSugar editor Annie Scudder has more on the sporty appearance.
Along with her husband Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry, Kate has been named an ambassador to this year's Olympic Games, which begin in July. One of her first orders of business was touring London's Olympic Park this morning.
Kate went casual for the occasion, sporting tight bright pants, tennis shoes, and a blazer, though she changed into a hoodie before hitting the court.
Kate is no stranger to hockey. She was the captain of her field hockey team at Marlborough College and we saw her pick up a stick last Summer during her and Williams's tour of Canada.
'Do you wear these during the game as well?'
Team members presented the Duchess with a jersey that read 'Cambridge 1' and also sent one along for William, who is still away serving in the Falkland Islands.
Kate continued her busy day by meeting up with Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla at an art gallery.

An Italian gossip magazine has provoked outcry by publishing intimate pictures of the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge in a bikini while on holiday in the Caribbean.
Gossip rag Chi - owned by former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi- printed the photographs of William and Kate during their recent stay on the paradise island of Mustique .
On a website publicising Chi, Kate is pictured on the magazine's front cover in a blue bikini, which shows her slight baby bump , striding knee-high through the sea above the headline 'the belly grows'.
A second image shows the Duke, wearing a pair of shorts, with his left arm around his wife as they walk along a beach, under the headline 'Kate and William honeymoon in three'.
The magazine, which hits newsstands tomorrow, also gives details of the luxury £19,000-a-week luxury villa the couple are staying in.
It is believed that the royal couple are still holidaying on Mustique and were reportedly joined by Kate's family, parents Carole and Michael Middleton and her siblings James and Pippa.
St James's Palace would not comment on whether William had been informed about the issue or if they were considering any form of legal action against the magazine.
But a spokesman condemned the magazine for breaching the royal couple's privacy.
