ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യന്‍ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലെ ജയിലുകളില്‍ കഴിയുന്ന തടവുപുള്ളികളുടെ മാനസികപ്രശ്‌നങ്ങള്‍ വര്‍ദ്ധിക്കുന്നതായി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്. നാഷണല്‍ ഇന്സ്റ്റി റ്റിയൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മെന്റല്‍ ഹെല്ത്ത് ആന്റ് ന്യൂറോ സയന്‍സസ് (നിംഹാന്‍സ്) നടത്തിയ സര്‍വ്വേയിലാണ് ഇക്കാര്യമുള്ളത്.
കര്‍ണ്ണാടകയിലേയും കേരളത്തിലേയും ജയിലുകളിലെ തടവുകാര്‍ക്കാണ് മാനസികപ്രശ്‌നങ്ങള്‍ കൂടുതലായും കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. കര്‍ണ്ണാടകയിലെ 383 തടവുകാരും, കേരളത്തിലെ 305 തടവുകാരും മാനസികരോഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് അടിമകളാണ്. ആന്ധ്രപ്രദേശില്‍ 144, തെലങ്കാനയില്‍ 133 എന്നിങ്ങനെയാണ് കണക്കുകള്‍. ജയിലുകളിലെ മനുഷ്യാവകാശ ലംഘനങ്ങളും ജയില്‍ ജീവനക്കാരുടെ അവഗണനയുമാണ് പ്രധാനമായും തടവുകാരുടെ മാനസികാരോഗ്യത്തെ പ്രതികൂലമായി ബാധിക്കുന്നതെന്നും പഠനം കണ്ടെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഇതിനു പുറമേ ജയിലുകളിലെ ജീവിതസാഹചര്യങ്ങളും, ഏകാനന്തയും മാനസികപ്രശ്‌നങ്ങള്‍ക്കു കാരണമാകുന്നുണ്ട്.
