Bobby Petrino Fired from Arkansas
Arkansas fired coach Bobby Petrino on Tuesday and then scathingly dressed him down for unfairly hiring his mistress and intentionally misleading his boss about everything from their relationship to her presence at the motorcycle accident that ultimately cost him his job.
Athletic director Jeff Long announced his decision at an evening news conference and laid out a stunning laundry list of misdeeds against the man he hired away from the Atlanta Falcons four years ago.
They included ignoring multiple chances over the past 10 days to come clean to Long about a relationship that had crossed the line from infidelity into workplace favoritism.
'He made the decision a conscious decision to mislead the public on Tuesday, and in doing so negatively and adversely affected the reputation of the University of Arkansas and our football program,' Long said, choking up at one point as he discussed telling players that their coach was gone. 'In short, coach Petrino engaged in a pattern of misleading and manipulative behavior designed to deceive me and members of the athletic staff, both before and after the motorcycle accident.'
The 51-year-old Petrino, a married father of four, had maintained an inappropriate relationship with 25-year-old Jessica Dorrell for a 'significant' amount of time and at one point had given her $20,000, Long said.

When Bobby Petrino arrived as Arkansas coach in 2007 he was hailed with shouts of 'Woo Pig Sooie!' On Tuesday he was dismissed in disgrace for having 'knowingly misled' the university regarding a relationship he maintained with a school employee half his age.
Petrino, 51, was fired with cause by athletic director Jeff Long. Long's decision came after he reviewed the relationship between Petrino and Jessica Dorrell, an athletics department employee who was riding on the back of Petrino's motorcycle when he crashed into a pit on April 1. Petrino, who is married with four children, did not tell his bosses that Dorrell was with him at the time of the crash. He suffered four broken ribs, a cracked vertebrae in his neck and numerous abrasions on his face.
Once the coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Petrino finishes with a 34-17 record in four seasons, 21-5 over his final two in Fayetteville. He left the Falcons in his previous role by resigning without addressing his players. He left notes in their lockers.
In a press conference to announce the firing Tuesday, Long said he learned that Petrino paid Dorrell $20,000 at one point, but did not elaborate on the reason for the payment. Long declined to comment on Dorrell's job status.

Not only was Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino riding a motorcycle without a helmet when he crashed Sunday night, but he also had a 25-year-old athletic department employee riding with him, and Arkansas lied about that detail.
The police report from the crash says 25-year-old Jessica Dorrell was on the back of Petrino's motorcycle, though she miraculously was uninjured. Dorrell left in her car while Petrino was taken to the hospital by a police officer. Now here's where the coverup begins.
A release from the University of Arkansas earlier this week said Petrino was involved in a wreck 'that involved no other individuals.'
Petrino also left out that Dorrell was on the motorcycle when speaking with the media.
'When I came out of a ditch, there was a lady there that had flagged down a car. And the guy that was in the passenger seat said get in we'll just take you right to the hospital,' he said, per ArkansasSports360.
Petrino told the media that he had spent the day at a lake with his wife, Becky.
Dorrell is a former all-SEC volleyball player at Arkansas who was named the 'student-athlete development coordinator for football' last week. She graduated from Arkansas in 2008 and earned a master's from the school two years later.
