A day prior to India U-16 second friendly match against U-16 Malaysia, Fernandes spoke at length about the strength of the Malaysian National Team, losing three matches on the trot, plugging the gaps at the back and much more. EXCERPTS:




    What was your assessment of the Malaysian National Team?


    Malaysia play counter-attacking football and the players are individually good on the ball. We did not start well in the first-half. However, in the second half we dominated but conceded goals on the counter as we pushed hard for the equaliser. There was desire and our boys gave everything to win but Malaysia did well to hold on.




    We have been conceding late goals in every match now? Why do you believe it’s happening?

    These being friendly matches it is always better to go all out for a win than play safe and lose by just one goal. In all the recent matches that we have conceded late, we were trying to win games and by doing this we are getting ready for every kind of challenges we might face at the AFC U-16 finals. Even in the last game, we tried our best for the equaliser but conceded a goal due to a lack of concentration from one of our defenders. We are working even harder now to find solutions to get back to winning ways.

    The Indian U-16 National Team currently on an exposure trip in Wei Nan City, China faced the hosts today (July 03, 2018) in a Four-Nation International Tournament and lost 1-0 against the Chinese U-17 National Team.




    Hosts China came out strong in the early minutes of the match, but the Indian defence line held them at bay. Goalkeeper Biaka made two crucial saves in the 16th and 17th minute to keep India in the match.




    The Indian colts gradually found their footing in the match and in the 30th minute almost took the lead when Ridge De’Mello’s rasping shot hit the woodwork and went out. In the 40th minute, Vikram’s shot from range missed the target as the Colts pressed to secure advantage.




    However, it were the hosts who took the lead in the 42nd minute and held onto it for the half as the half-time scoreline read 1-0 in China’s favour.




    Playing against older opponents had little effect on the Indian colts and Bibiano Fernandes’s boys get back into attacking mode immediately. Ridge De’Mello proved to be a constant threat for the Chinese defence line and his shot tested the opponent custodian early in the second half, often.

    India were held to a goalless draw by defending Asian Champions Iraq in the AFC U-16 Championship Qualifiers at the Halchowk Stadium in Kathmandu on Sunday.

    A second consecutive draw means that India end their group stage ties in the competition with five points out of a maximum nine, with a big win against Palestine followed by two draws against Nepal and Iraq aiding the cause.

    Meanwhile, Iraq who finished their engagements with 7 points from 3 matches have already booked a ticket to the AFC U-16 Finals slated to be held next year.

    Knowing that only a victory would enable them a ticket to the AFC U-16 Finals, India started on a positive note and should have surged into the lead as early as the 6th minute itself but the swift Bekey, despite sneaking in from the flanks, could not get the power behind his shot and the Iraqi goalkeeper managed to save it.

    Iraq's physical prowess enabled them to boss the midfield and as a result, the India Colts failed to produce clear-cut chances regularly. Both sides went in at the break without having broken the deadlock.

    The Indian U-16 National Team currently on an exposure tour in Thailand lost the lead and match to go down 1-2 against the U-16 National Team today (July 20, 2018).

    The Indian colts had surged into the lead in the 18th minute when Vikram Pratap Singh beat the offside trap to slot home. But the hosts scored two in the second half, the match-winner coming as late as the 89th minute.


    The result, in fact, is reminiscent of the last match played between the two teams in China earlier this month when the Indian colts had conceded two in the last three minutes to go down 1-3.

    It was however, the Indians attacked from the opening minutes and as early as the second minute, they pressed on to the opposition goal, only to be denied by the defence line. In the 9th minute, an Indian free-kick was saved by the Thai custodian.

    In the 18th minute, the Indian Colts surged ahead into the lead when Vikram Pratap Singh capitalized on a through ball by Givson and slotted it past the Thai custodian with ease to give India the lead.

    After stunning the Thai opponents the Indian colts enjoyed a healthy share of possession but despite getting into favourable positions, they failed to capitalize on the lead.

    In the 28thminute Vikram’s shot off a Shabas cross was easily saved by the Thai goalkeeper.

    The second half started on a slow note but Thailand had better of the exchanges and almost found the net in the 51st minute but were denied by the Biaka, the Indian custodian.

    Riding on Vikram Pratap Singh’s hat-trick a superior India U-16 scored four times against hosts Jordan to register a comfortable 4-0 victory in their first match of the 5th WAFF U-16 Championship at the King Abdullah II Stadium in Jordan today (August 1, 2018).




    Vikram opened the scoring in the 43rd minute and then added two more in the 61st and the 73rd minutes to complete the trick before Bekey Oram completed the rout in the 84th minute.




    A strong Japan U-16 awaits the Indian colts in the next match on August 3, 2018 (Friday) evening, the live telecast of which will be available on Techtro - Indian football HUB This is the 4th exposure tour since June 30 for the boys after trips to China, Thailand and Malaysia.
    The match started at a slow pace with both the teams hooked on to a 'safety-first' approach and no one could garner a clear chance. Givson, who generally operates as the distributor in the middle, floated a looping ball from the left wing for Vikram in the 13th minute but the Jordanian goalkeeper came out to clear it away.
    It was, however, Vikram who broke the deadlock two minutes to the half-time from inside the 6-yard box.
