ആസിഡ് ആക്രമണത്തിന് ഇരയാക്കിയ പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് ബോംബേ ഹൈക്കോടതി പ്രതിയുടെ ജീവപര്യന്തം ശിക്ഷ റദ്ദാക്കി.
എട്ടു വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുന്‍പാണ് യുവതിയെ അനില്‍ പാട്ടീല്‍ എന്നയാള്‍ കയ്യില്‍ കരുതിയിരുന്ന ആസിഡ് ഒഴിച്ച് കൊലപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചത്. 2010ല്‍ നടന്ന സംഭവത്തിന് 2013 ലാണ് കോടതി ഇയാളെ ജീവപര്യന്തം ശിക്ഷയ്ക്ക് വിധിച്ചത്. ഇതാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ എട്ട് വര്‍ഷത്തെ തടവ് ശിക്ഷയായി കുറച്ച് നല്‍കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയെ വിവാഹം കഴിയ്ക്കാമെന്നും യുവതിയുടെ പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക്ക് സര്‍ജറിക്കായി തന്റെ ത്വക്ക് ദാനം ചെയ്യാമെന്നും ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയുടെ ചെലവ് പൂര്‍ണമായും വഹിക്കാമെന്നും പ്രതി പറഞ്ഞു. യുവതിയുമായി സംസാരിച്ച പ്രതി ഇരുവരും വിവാഹം കഴിക്കാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ച കാര്യം കോടതിയെ അറിയിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു..
വിവാഹശേഷം പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയുമായി സ്വസ്ഥജീവിതത്തിനുള്ള അവസരമൊരുക്കണമെന്നും താന്‍ ചെയ്ത തെറ്റ് തിരുത്തിയെന്നും പ്രതി കോടതിയില്‍ ഹര്‍ജി സമര്‍പ്പിച്ചു. ഇതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ ഇയാളെ കോടതി കേസില്‍നിന്ന് മോചിപ്പിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. എട്ടു വര്‍ഷമായി ഇയാള്‍ ശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കുകയാണെന്ന നിരീക്ഷണത്തോടെ കോടതി പ്രതിയെ മോചിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.

Virat Kohli’s fortunes as Team India’s ODI skipper hangs pretty much in the balance as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to name the squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa. The 33-year-old Kohli has performed well in bilateral tournaments, but have strained a bit in tournaments, organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Recently, the veteran batter stepped down as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Team India’s T20I team. Kohli also didn’t lead in India’s opening Test against New Zealand, but is set to play the Mumbai Test.
For the upcoming series, the Chetan Sharma-led selection panel was set to meet after India’s Kanpur Test against the Black Caps. However, the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 led to its delay. Earlier, it was learned that the BCCI was waiting for a green signal from the government for the tour.
The players, who aren’t a part of the series against the Kiwis, were asked to go into quarantine in Mumbai. Now as per reports, the Indian board would name the squads irrespective of whether the tour gets underway or not.
The Australian side has announced its final 15-member squad for the 1st and 2nd Ashes Test matches against England. And, it has been confirmed that wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey will be making his Test debut for the kangaroos.
The Chairman of Selectors of the Australian side, George Bailey said that Carey has now been a regular part of the Australian limited-overs setup, and even labelled the left-hander as an excellent cricketer.
Adding that Carey will bring in a lot of strengths to the Australian side, Bailey added that Carey will be the 461st player to wear the Baggy Green for the Australian side.
