The Arpora-Nagoa panchayat will never allow dance bars to open, sarpanch Roshan Redkar has said, amid rumours that promoters of 11 dance bars — which were recently sealed at Calangute — are looking to shift their operations to the neighbouring village. “Arpora does not have such establishments, and we will ensure that they never open here because their activities spoil the name of Goa,” Redkar said“It was a good decision by government to shut these 11 places because the people were against them.” Some dance bar promoters have allegedly approached a few venues at Arpora, which lies next to Calangute. Pointing out that there are several popular clubs and nightspots at Arpora, Redkar said they would always be welcome. “But not dance bars with dancing women which loot tourists,” he said. “When we issue licences, we make it clear that no illegal activities will be tolerated.”
