The coastal security vessel that was rendered inoperative a 2 years ago is still lying at the Talpona coastal police station, in Canacona. The government had promised to repair the vessel within six months, as declared by then deputy speaker Isidore Fernandes, who is the former Canacona MLA. The vessel is vital to Canacona coastal security and its unavailability is a handicap. Last year, the vessel came into focus after some high-speed vessels from Malpe in Karnataka were fishing in Goa’s territorial waters. But coastal police were hampered by the lack of the vessel and had to call for a vessel from Betul. The intruders vanished in the meantime. A few Talpona fishermen had used motorboats to chase away the intruders.
