Residents of Ponda are raising concerns about the growing issue of stray cattle roaming the streets, and are urging the government to address the problem and seeking support from temple committees and Communidade to donate land for goshalas to ensure the welfare of these abandoned animals. Sanket Narvekar and Gauresh Mehta, actively involved in the welfare of stray animals, have submitted a memorandum to Block Development Officer Ashwin Desai and the local Kavlem panchayat. The memorandum calls for the implementation of a High Court order regarding stray cattle. As per the court order, there is a need to establish goshalas or shift stray cattle to existing goshalas through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for their proper care and maintenance. However, the availability of land has become a significant hurdle in setting up such shelters. Narvekar urged temple committees and communidade institutions to contribute plots of land for the welfare, treatment, and care of stray cattle. He pointed out that the presence of stray animals on roads not only causes accidents but also results in injuries to the animals
