Milla Jovovich returns as Alice in Resident Evil: Retribution - the fifth in the franchise.
Continuing her fight against the Umbrella Corporation and the undead, she plays a zombie-fighting housewife, who may or may not have had her memories altered.
The video game inspired film premiered in Los Angeles this week.
Jovovich says female roles are evolving: 'I think it's incredible, if you really look even 15 years ago, it was so difficult for women in films to kick butt, to be the strong female action heroes that really are the leads of a film. Normally girls are delegated to girlfriend roles, the girl next door, whatever it is. I'm so happy that with this series, we're really able to put females in the forefront.'
Sienna Guillory is back as Jill Valentine, who last appeared in the second Resident Evil.
Jovovich's husband British filmmaker Paul WS Anderson directed. It was his third Resident Evil movie.
He said: 'I love beautiful women kicking butt; I think it's the best thing. I've always made movies that have strong female characters. I'm from the north of England, filled with strong female characters including my mother, I've always liked it and I think audiences increasingly respond to it. For guys it's sexy and for women it's really empowering to show some girl power.'

Lionsgate CEO, Jon Feltheimer, is talking about Expendables 3 casting, and there is a long list of some pretty impressive potentials. Deadline is reporting that there are quite a few stars in advanced negotiations for the third Expendables installment, and among them are Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage, and even Milla Jovovich.
We've been hearing rumors for a while now that Cage, Snipes, and Chan have been at the top of screenwriter and Expendable's star Sylvester Stallone's list of favorites. And with all of the action and adventure film experience between the three of guys, fans were really getting on board with those castings. But, this is the first time we have heard Milla's name attached to the project. We've been following Sly closely over on his twitter page, and you can too @TheSlyStallone, and he has been putting out feelers recently for someone that could play a 'Young Sigourney Weaver' type, which is leading some to think that that could be the role Milla is in negotiations for. Whoever she's playing, we can only assume that she will be kicking butt and taking names, and if it will be anything like her work in The Resident Evil series, she will definitely be able to hang with the boys in this male dominated cast. Production is said to begin in August with Lionsgate eyeing a 2014 release.
