Bhubaneswar: Block grant teachers and lecturers under the banner of the Odisha School College Teachers and Employees’ United Forum observed the Teachers day today as Black Day protesting non-fulfillment of their demands by the State Government.
Bearing incessant rain, large number of teachers staged a protest at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here to press for their demands. The activists also threatened to shut down all block grant schools and colleges from September 6. Their demands include abolition of block grant system, equal pay for equal work and job regularization.
It may be mentioned here that the teachers have been staging agitation near Lower PMG here from August 16.
The agitating teachers also threatened that they will gherao houses of MLAs across the State on September 6 and 7 and take out rallies in every Panchayat from September 17 to press for their demands.
Meanwhile, the annual state and district-level programmes to felicitate teachers has been postponed for an indefinite period.
