Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira announced on Sunday that the government has given the green light for the installation of AI-controlled traffic signals at Peddem junction. Ferreira emphasized the importance of this initiative, citing Peddem junction’s high rate of accidents as a priority concern. The traffic signals, equipped with cameras, will be sourced from Chennai. Ferreira also pledged to address the synchronization of all signals at the junction once the new system is operational. He raised concerns about motorists speeding due to the reduced height of rumbler strips and called for stricter enforcement measures. He also disclosed that the government has accepted his longstanding proposal for a flyover/underpass, with a consultant tasked to develop the plan.
