Fighting for justice for the trees that will come under the axe for the proposed road widening work on the Siolim Marna road, nature lovers held a candlelight vigil to oppose the ongoing tree-cutting. They said they will continue to protest until the trees are replanted and seek legal recourse if needed. Avertino Miranda of the Goa Green Brigade said that there was no consultation held with people before the decision was taken to cut the trees. He alleged that road widening is being done for a housing or mega project and not for the safety of motorists, as road expansion is not the solution to traffic problems. The MLAs are behaving like dictators, he alleged.
