Bombay Talkies is an anthology of four short films, each enticing you into their own magical world, taking the viewer through a gamut of entertainment and emotions. While Karan Johar's unofficially titled 'Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh' is a tale of angst and love, Zoya Akhtar's 'Sheila Ki Jawaani' is sweetly innocent. Anurag Kashyap's 'Murabba' is a story of hope being eternal while Dibakar Banerjee's 'Star' is beautifully poignant.
Apart from sharing its name with one of India's oldest and most prestigious film studios, Bombay Talkies also shares the values that are essential to good filmmaking like love, laughter, sorrow and joy. So we may have four very different directors helming the project but they maintain a consistent tone as their tales of dreams, aspirations, love and hope collide against a common backdrop leaving you oscillating between illusion and reality, a wish to find out more about their stories.
The icing on the cake is the cast of all four stories, which only adds to the sense of realism and fantasy, both, at the same time. To name any one actor who has excelled more than the other would be unfair to the others as all performances are brilliant.
