The Centre on Monday implemented the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), five years after it was passed in Parliament. The notification comes ahead of the announcement of dates for the Lok Sabha elections by the Election Commission of India.

प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने नागरिकता संशोधन कानून का नोटिफिकेशन जारी कर दिया है. अब .गैर मुस्लिम शरणार्थियों को नागिरकता मिलेगी लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले केंद्र सरकार का यह बड़ा कदम है. इसके तहत अब तीन पड़ोसी देशों के अल्पसंख्यकों को भारत की नागरिकता मिल सकेगी. इसके लिए उन्हें केंद्र सरकार द्वारा तैयार किए गए ऑनलाइन पोर्टल पर आवेदन करना होगा.

दरअसल, 2019 के लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले बीजेपी ने सीएए को अपने घोषणा पत्र में शामिल किया था. इसे पार्टी ने बड़ा मुद्दा बनाया था. गृह मंत्री अमित शाह हाल ही के अपने चुनावी भाषणों में कई बार नागरिकता संशोधन कानून या CAA को लागू करने की बात कर चुके थे. उन्होंने ऐलान किया था कि लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले इसे लागू कर दिया जाएगा. अब केंद्र सरकार ने इसके लिए नोटिफिकेशन जारी करते हुए इसे लागू कर दिया है.

Last month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the CAA will be implemented before the Lok Sabha elections this year after issuing the rules in this regard.
