Gubernur Bank Indonesia Perry Warjiyo menyebut stabilnya rupiah dipicu perdagangan rupiah yang bergerak sesuai mekanisme pasar dan didorong turunnya defisit transaksi berjalan.
Tahun depan, Menurut Perry, pihaknya akan tetap tetap mengedepankan mandatnya untuk menjaga inflasi sesuai sasaran dan stabilisasi nilai tukar.
BI akan memastikan cadangan devisa tetap cukup untuk melakukan intervensi dalam menjaga stabilisasi nilai tukar.
Menurut Perry, stabilnya nilai tukar rupiah terhadap dolar AS ditopang penurunan defisit transaksi berjalan ke tingkat yang lebih aman, stabilitas sistem keuangan yang terjaga, dan kenaikan pertumbuhan kredit perbankan yang berlanjut di 2019.
Seperti diketahui sepanjang 2018, nilai tukar rupiah jatuh bangun terhadap dolar Amerika Serikat. Bahkan rupiah sempat menyentu level Rp 15.252 per dolar AS.
