An alert was issued earlier in the day for the city of Edmonton and some surrounding areas as a tornado appeared to have touched down near Pigeon Lake, which is south of Edmonton, according to the Edmonton Journal.

“I’ve seen cold funnel before, but nothing like this,” Tony Monea told the newspaper.

Residents are advised to take cover or in a “sturdy, permanent building or underground” if a tornado approaches.

“If you see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately,” the Environment Canada warning says..
