TIME magazine has selected student and activist Gurmehar Kaur as one of its 'Next Generation Leaders' of 2017, hailing her as a free speech warrior.
The 20-year-old student became famous when she was trolled online for speaking up against the alleged attacks made by ABVP members in Ramjas College in February 2017.
She is the daughter of an army officer who was shot dead in an encounter with militants, when she was two-years-old. She was threatened with rape and murder by trolls for appearing in a video where she condemned war, not Pakistan, for the death of her father.
According to TIME magazine, 'she refuses to be silenced and has a memoir, Small Acts of Freedom, that is due to be published next year.'
