Facebook is apologizing after featuring a fake, sensational news story about Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly in its influential “Trending” topics section?. The story, which has since been removed from the list, falsely claimed that the cable channel had fired Kelly for being 'a closet liberal who actually wants Hillary to win.' The story about Kelly's supposed firing came from the right-wing website End The Fed, which boasts headlines like “What Obama Has to Say About 'White Folks' Will Make Your Blood Boil' and 'Eric Bolling Exposes New Dirty Tricks Clintons Used to Escape Jail Time and Become Millionaires.' The fact that Facebook was taken in and promoted the fake story was captured by the Independent Journal Review's Justin Green, who tweeted a screenshot of Facebook's Trending list? before it was corrected:

That the inscrutable quote Sean Hannity predicted would be picked up in the press after he coyly dismissed the rumors that Megyn Kelly's ascension to his 9pm time slot could mean anything bad for his career. Without giving anything about his own future away, Hannity said he's 'very happy' with the result.

He said, 'I am actually enjoying people that really don't know a whole lot, just going nuts. So I'm going to leave it there, just for fun. And these comments will be picked up now. Sean Hannity reacted to the rumor that Fox News' Megyn Kelly would be taking over his 9:00 p.m. time slot in prime time.
According to Thursday's Drudge Report, 'top sources' said that Kelly would be moving to Hannity's 9:00 p.m. hour and that the announcement would be made later in August.
Hannity also reacted to the rumor on Thursday, but did not confirm or deny its validity. 'I am actually enjoying people that really don’t know a whole lot, just going nuts. So I’m going to leave it there, just for fun,' Hannity said on his radio show. 'Let's just say in the end, I'm very happy. That's all I can say at this point.'
TVNewser reported that Fox News chief Roger Ailes addressed the rumor during a 21st Century Fox investors conference on the same day, saying that he would not comment on Kelly's primetime gig. He did tease upcoming announcements that not only seemed to impact Kelly and Hannity, but Fox News' beloved daytime and cable primetime host, Shep Smith. While the network's specific plans remain a mystery, one thing is quite clear: the number one cable news network that has not touched its prime time lineup in many years is about to implement some major changes.
