The defending champions, West Indies, have gathered a force that is quite capable of winning the third T20 World Cup trophy with some key and experienced players in the mix. Under the leadership of Kieron Pollard, the West Indian squad looks like one of the firm favorites. The fact that the players have had enough time to play in the CPL and IPL along with international T20Is gives them a good preparation going ahead into the mega event.
The squad announced looks even better in some departments than the teams which won the T20 World Cups before in 2012 and 2016. For the top order, West Indies have Chris Gayle, Lendl Simmons and Evin Lewis. Though Gayle’s form is a bit of a concern, he brings a lot of experience along with him and can turn the game around on his day. Shimron Hetmyer is another specialist batter, who might get slotted in the middle order if he is picked.
Speaking of batters, there are two more players who can be considered in this category but provide this side with wicketkeeping options, vice-captain Nicholas Pooran and Andre Fletcher. Fletcher might start on the bench, but can be brought to strengthen their top-order any time. Apart from these two, there are a bunch of all-rounders who provide balance to this team.
Pollard will have some partners in Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo to share the workload. Roston Chase is one of the surprise picks and has been impressive in this year’s CPL, with bat and his off-spin. Apart from him, another talented left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder is Fabian Allen. To add to the variety in the spin department, West Indies also have the leg-spinner, Hayden Walsh Jr.
With most of their bowling responsibility being covered, West Indies also have three pacers in their squad. Obed McCoy and Oshane Thomas are two exciting players, with different skill sets. Ravi Rampaul has returned to the squad after his sensational CPL season, but there is no clarity if he will start or not. There ar.

There is a lot of talk around the Australia team going into this T20 World Cup. There have been quite publicized debates around the place of head coach Justin Langer, their key players haven’t shown up for tours and the overall balance doesn’t seem quite right. On top of that, a series loss in West Indies and Bangladesh doesn’t put them in the right mind frame heading into the T20 World Cup.
However, on paper, this Australian team looks quite balanced and has enough quality to go and win the tournament. The issues are around injuries, their recoveries, and lack of match practice going into the tournament. Skipper Aaron Finch himself played a lot of games in recent times while his opening partner David Warner has been dropped from his IPL team due to poor form.
Steve Smith is the only specialist batter apart from those two openers and is likely to bat at his preferred no. 3 position. Speaking of that position, there is someone who has been trying to eye it for some time. Don’t be surprised if you see Mitchell Marsh walking out at no. 3 in the T20 World Cup. His all-around skills will come in handy along with that of Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell, who have been in sensational form in the IPL.
Here are the three players to watch out for in the Pakistan team. #T20World Cup2021 #GlennMaxwell #Australia

There is a bit going on within the South African cricket system and for the first team in many years, they are not one of the favorites leading into an ICC event. In some corners, they have themselves to blame having not picked up players like Chris Morris, Imran Tahir and former skipper Faf du Plessis. However, the players who have been named are not bad either.
Captain Temba Bavuma since getting the job has gone on to win the T20I series in the West Indies and Ireland. Despite missing the Sri Lanka T20I series, he will be back to open the innings with Quinton de Kock. The southpaw’s form has been exceptional this year and Proteas would expect him to continue with that. Heinrich Klaasen has also been named as a backup keeper.
Coming back to the batting talents, South Africa has Reeza Hendricks, David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram. All of these players have some runs under their belt, while Markram has some wickets on his back as well. Apart from him, players who can improve the balance of this squad are Dwaine Pretorius and Wiaan Mulder.
With that, we can get into the South African bowling department. The fact that they don’t have many multi-dimensional players has been compensated with six bowling options. In the spin department, they have the world’s No. 1 T20I bowler, Tabraiz Shamsi along with Keshav Maharaj, who has had quite a wonderful start to his T20I career. Bjorn Fortuin is another spin-bowling option, who has been consistent with his line and adds a bit more depth in this attack.
After this, they have three frontline pacers in Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi. It is expected that Rabada will pair with Nortje to form a formidable pace-bowling combination as they have done for Delhi Capitals in the IPL’s UAE editions in 2020 and 2021. Apart from that, Proteas also have some quality in their reserves, having named George Linde, Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams.
Watch out.

When it comes to the World Cup of the shortest format, Sri Lanka has more often than not been a team full of surprises. Their history in the tournament has been pretty much impressive. Ever since the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup, the team has pulled out some splendid performances to maintain their good run in the tournament. Sri Lanka has played in every single tournament since the beginning and has finished runners-up in 2009 and 2012 before finally lifting the trophy by emerging triumphant over India in 2014 final.
Before entering this tournament, Sri Lanka has had a roller coaster of a journey. The team was completely outplayed by England in the white ball series and then were placed under major scrutiny for their performances against the hosts. Sri Lanka was hammered in England wherein they couldn’t fetch a single victory. However, the side has tried to punch above their weights to turn the tide after their lows of the England tour.
They won an ODI against India and then also sealed the T20I series 2-1. Taking on the challenge against South Africa, the team did win the ODI series 2-1 but eventually were clean swept 3-0 by the Proteas in the T20Is. They then got the opportunity to seal the holes in the side ahead of this marquee event when they locked horns with Oman. Sri Lanka won both the matches and would have polished off their edges before entering the T20 World Cup.
Talking of their strengths, Sri Lanka will be pinning a lot of hopes on their spin department. The golden form of Wanindu Hasaranga who has turned many heads with his lethal bowling will be a great advantage for the side in the tournament. He is currently the number-two ranked bowler in the ICC T20I rankings having made pivotal contributions to the side.
Maheesh Theekshana might also chime in as a mystery spin option for Sri Lanka. He has quite a few variations under his sleeves and possesses the ability to disturb the batters with the tricks he has

The T20 World Cup 2021 has started & it is at this stage where a player’s calibre, mettle and adaptability are tested the most. How well the team has performed in the past does not matter as any team can beat one of the stronger teams during the global event. The format of the T20 is also very unpredictable, and within few balls, the course of the match changes. So as cliché as it may sound it, is not over unless it is over.
New Zealand would be coming into the T20 World Cup 2021 with a lot of confidence from their recent success at ICC events and with a squad that has the potential to go for the kill. Gone are the days when the Blackcaps were only considered as a dark horse. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) was the first among all the top eight teams to announce their squad, but it will be interesting to see if they make any change before October 10 or not.
In the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup in India, the Blackcaps qualified from the super 10 round unbeaten, having got wins against India and Pakistan, both of whom they will face in this edition in the super 12 round. They had lost the semi-final to England but will be aiming for a better finish this time around.
Speaking about the 15-member squad, the NZC selectors made a couple of harsh calls in terms of filling up some spots. Colin Munro, Ross Taylor and Colin de Grandhomme missed out after a couple of underwhelming seasons in the New Zealand T20I team. Despite their absence, the Blackcaps have a pretty rounded batting order.
Skipper Kane Williamson and opener Martin Guptill remain their most important and experienced batters. To fill the role of wicketkeeper, New Zealand has Tim Seifert, Glenn Phillips and Devon Conway, with at least two of them ready to play in the starting XI. They have also picked up five all-rounders and the picks have been made keeping in mind the conditions.
James Neesham and Daryl Mitchell are the two seam-bowling all-rounders. Mark Chap
