പാലക്കാട് പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയഭാഗത്തായി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന കോട്ടയാണ് ടിപ്പു സുൽത്താന്‍ കോട്ട. മൈസൂർ രാജാവായിരുന്ന ഹൈദരലി 1766-ൽ പണികഴിപ്പിച്ച ഈ കോട്ട പിന്നീട് പിടിച്ചടക്കിയ ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർ കോട്ട പുനരുദ്ധരിച്ചു. പല വീരകഥകളും ഉറങ്ങുന്ന ഈ കോട്ട ഇന്ന് ആർക്കിയോളജിക്കൽ സർവേ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യ ആണ് സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും നന്നായി സംരക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കോട്ടകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഈ കോട്ട.കോട്ടയ്ക്കുള്ളില്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ പാലക്കാട് സ്‌പെഷ്യല്‍ സബ് ജയില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
കോട്ടയ്ക്കുള്ളിലായി ചെറിയ ഒരു ഹനുമാന്‍ ക്ഷേത്രവുമുണ്ട്. കോട്ടയ്ക്കും പാലക്കാട് ടൗണ്‍ ഹാളിനും ഇടയ്ക്കായി ഒരു വലിയ മൈതാനമുണ്ട്, കോട്ടമൈതാനമെന്നാണ് ഇത് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഒരു കാലത്ത് ടിപ്പു സുല്‍ത്താന്റെ ആനകളുടെയും കുതിരകളുടെയുമെല്ലാം ലായം ആയി ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത് ഈ മൈതാനമായിരുന്നുവത്രേ. ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഇവിടെ പൊതുസമ്മേളനങ്ങലും പ്രദര്‍ശനങ്ങളും മറ്റുമാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. കോട്ടയുടെ അരികിലായി കുട്ടികള്‍ക്കുള്ള ഒരു പാര്‍ക്കുമുണ്ട്. കാലത്ത് 9 മണിമുതല്‍ വൈകീട്ട് 5 മണിവരെയാണ് കോട്ടയിലെ സന്ദര്‍ശന സമയം. സ്റ്റില്‍ ക്യാമറ കൊണ്ടുപോകണമെങ്കില്‍ 20 രൂപയും വീഡിയോ കാമറ കൊണ്ടുപോകാന്‍ 50 രൂപയും ഫീസായി നല്‍കണം. ഇതല്ലാതെ മറ്റ് പ്രവേശന ഫീസുകളൊന്നും ഇല്ല.
