As you are aware, Chabahar Port is a joint effort of the Governments of India, Iran, and Afghanistan, to support landlocked Afghanistan by giving access to the open seas, optimizing logistic cost by bringing in efficiency and create a reliable and safe transport corridor.
Further, the project also aims to develop a transit hub for cross connectivity between the India and Eurasia.
Our Indian company, India Ports Global Limited (IPGL), through its wholly owned subsidiary India Ports Global Chabahar Free Zone (IPGCFZ) commenced operations at Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar on 25th December, 2018
and since handled 123 vessels and total 13,752 TEUs and 18 lakh tons of bulk / general cargo. Additionally, there has been an increase in average monthly call by vessels.
Chabahar Port has emerged as the “connecting point” for the region to deliver humanitarian assistance during the COVID pandemic.
India has used Chabahar Port to ship wheat to Afghanistan.
India shipped full consignment of 75000 MT of wheat given as humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan in September, 2020.
Till date, total 1 lakh 10 thousand tons of wheat and 2000 tons of pulses has been trans-shipped from India to Afghanistan.
Chabahar Port is part of our shared commitment towards peace, stability and prosperity of the people of Afghanistan.
