The Centre has told the Delhi High Court that social messaging platform WhatsApp was trying to 'force' its users to consent to the new privacy policy before the Personal Data Protection Bill becomes the law by bombarding them with notifications daily to obtain their consent. Terming WhatsApp's bombarding of notifications on its customers as an 'anti-user practice' for obtaining 'trick consent', the central government has urged the court to direct the messaging platform to desist from pushing notifications onto its existing users with regard to the new privacy policy.

With the Indian government once again directing WhatsApp to withdraw its controversial user privacy policy that came into effect from May 15, the Facebook-owned platform with over 400 million users in the country on Wednesday defended its position, saying that it continues to engage with the government to resolve the issue. According to official sources, in its fresh notice to the company, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has said that there are various options available for the messaging platform under Indian law. The government told WhatsApp to respond to its concerns by May 25.

WHATSAPP इस्तेमाल करने वाले दो लोगों की तरफ से हाईकोर्ट में याचिका दाखिल की गई। जिसपर कोर्ट ने केंद्र सरकार को नोटिस भेजा है और 14 सितंबर तक संबंधित विभागों से जवाब तलब किया है। इस याचिका में आरोप लगाया गया है कि WHATSAPP की इस नई पॉलिसी से यूज़र्स के अधिकारों के साथ खिलवाड़ किया गया है। साथ ही इस नई पॉलिसी से यूज़र्स की प्राइवेसी भी खतरे में पड़ सकती है। आपको बता दें कि 25 सितंबर से लागू होने वाली इस पॉलिसी के बाद यूज़र्स के डाटा प्रोटेक्शन वाला फीचर हटा दिया जाएगा। इसके बाद WHATSAPP की सभी जानकारियों को फेसबुक अपने ग्रुप की सारी कंपनियों के साथ शेयर कर सकेगा। इन जानकारियों को मार्केटिंग और विज्ञापन के लिए भी इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है।
