South Africa vs India - 3rd ODI, Predicted Playing XIs & Stats Preview

At the start of the tour, India were billed the hot favourites. By the end of it, they seem to have done hardly anything to live up to that billing. After the highs of Centurion, they plummeted to lows in Johannesburg and Cape Town, letting go of what was the “best chance” in the words of many to record a maiden Test series victory in South Africa.

If the on-field affairs were soggy, there was not much to enjoy off the field either, with Virat Kohli giving up on the captaincy of the only format he was leading by the time the series had gotten underway.

Pitch and conditions:
Expect the new ball to do more than what it did in Paarl, although a quick outfield should mean the margin of error will be on the lower side for the bowlers. Statistically, Newlands is bat-first venue, with 28 ODIs won by teams batting first in 43 games at the venue. Therefore, the toss might play a crucial role.

Probable Playing XIs for SA vs IND
India
Probable XI: KL Rahul (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shreyas Iyer/Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah

South Africa
Probable XI: Janneman Malan, Quinton de Kock (wk), Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma (c), David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen, Keshav Maharaj, Andile Phehlukwayo, Wayne Parnell, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi

After losing the Test series by a 2-1 margin, team India will lock horns with South Africa in the three-match ODI series starting on January 19, 2022, at Boland Park in Paarl. The team will be led by stand-in skipper KL Rahul in the series as the newly appointed ODI captain Rohit Sharma is injured and out of action. It will be the first ODI assignment for the men in blue in 2022 as they last played 50-overs format back in July 2021 under Shikhar Dhawan’s captaincy against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.

Speaking of the recently concluded Test series, India’s drought in the Rainbow nation extended as South Africa still remains the only country where the sub-continent team hasn’t won a Test series in their history. For the hosts, there were a lot of positives in the series win with Keegan Petersen and Marco Jansen impressing everyone with their performances. Speedster Kagiso Rabada was at his lethal best as he turned out to be the highest wicket-taker in the series with 20 scalps to his name. Captain Dean Elgar led from the front both as a skipper and batter as he finished the series as the second-highest run-getter with 235 runs.

ODI skipper Temba Bavuma will be hoping to repeat the same by beating India in the ODI series as the hosts welcome their limited-overs regulars David Miller, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dwaine Pretorius, and Janneman Malan. Apart from the washed-out ODI against the Netherlands in November 2021, Wayne Parnell will be playing his first full series since 2018 when he joined Worcestershire to play county games in the Kolpak deal. On the other hand, the visitors have selected some new talents like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Venkatesh Iyer with senior pro-Shikhar Dhawan returning at the top of the order.

India vs South Africa - 2nd ODI Match, Predicted Playing XIs & Stats Preview

A ‘middle muddle’ cost India the 1st ODI against South Africa. In fact, at the halfway mark, India were very much in the game, with their scorecard reading 137/1, chasing a target of 297. The experienced pros, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli were going through the motions with ease, and had set up the chase nicely for the Indian middle order to take it forward.

However, the wicket of Dhawan changed the complexion of the game, as the middle order failed to step up. From 137/1, India slipped to 214/8, as the Proteas dominated the visitors after the halfway mark. Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, and Ravichandran Ashwin could not cross the 20-run mark, and India fell 31 runs short of the Protean total.

On the other hand, the South African side will be upbeat and confident going into the second rubber. The Proteas were rocked early in their innings and were reduced to 68/3. However, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen came together and put on a match-defining partnership of 204 runs for the 4th wicket, with both the batters scoring hundreds.

Even the Proteas’ bowling attack fired, as 5 out of the 6 bowlers used by South Africa scalped at least one wicket apiece, and none of the bowlers leaked runs at an economy rate of over 7 runs per over. So, India find themselves with their backs against the wall, as a loss in the 2nd ODI will mean that the visitors will surrender the series. On the other hand, the Proteas will look to continue from where they left off in the 1st rubber and seal the deal.

As we saw in the 1st ODI, the pitch will surely aid stroke-making. There will be a bit of help for the pacers in the early part of the innings, and the ball will nip around. The team batting first has won 5 out of the last 7 completed matches at this venue, and that should give an indication of what the captain winning the toss might want to do.

The Men in Blue have not been able to match the level of Proteas in the current series so far and are desperate to make a comeback. After losing two back-to-back matches, India will take on South Africa in the third match of the series.

One of the biggest issues Team India has is their bowling line-up, which has looked weak. The likes of David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen have exposed it. With the series on the line, the Men in Blue will want to put out a better show in the third match and eventually win that match.

    Pitch Report :
The pitch at the ACA-VDCA stadium is known to be a belter and a similar strip is expected for this game. At first, the batters will want themselves to settle down before playing the big shots. Skipper winning the toss might prefer to bowl first and chase the total later on.

Sri Lanka-W vs India-W, 3rd ODI: Predicted Playing XIs & Stats Preview

The Indian team has followed their T20I series win against Sri Lanka by clinching the ODI series with clinical performances in the first two games. With a 10-wicket triumph in the second ODI, India have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. They will be eyeing a whitewash with a third successive victory on July 7 (Thursday) at Pallekele.

In the second game, Renuka Singh was at the peak of her prowess for the Indian team, sending both the Sri Lankan openers back to the pavilion cheaply. The Indian pacer returned with figures of 4/28 as she annihilated the Sri Lankan batting lineup. Renuka was awarded the Player of the Match award for her efforts with the ball, which saw Sri Lanka restricted to 173 runs in their 50 overs.

The Indian batters, who had stumbled in their chase in the first ODI, were in no mood to make the same mistake again as the opening pair of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana were ruthless against the Sri Lankan bowlers. Both the openers registered their respective half-centuries in a monumental 174-run opening stand that saw India crush Sri Lanka by ten wickets.

Meanwhile, it’s been the same old story for the hosts, who failed to put a decent total on the board once again. But it was the struggle of the Sri Lankan bowlers that caught the eye in the second ODI as they didn’t even manage to lay a glove on the opposition batters.

India were the favourites heading into the series given their superior record against Sri Lanka, and a whitewash against the hosts will boost their morale heading into the Commonwealth Games, which will provide much more of a challenge to Harmanpreet Kaur’s side.

    Pitch and conditions
Often labeled as a spinner’s paradise, Pallekele has rolled out more of an even surface in the last couple of games. The pacers enjoyed bowling at the venue and got rewarded for their probing line and lengths. The team winning the toss might opt to bowl first, as chasing team

India will try to put on a strong performance in the series finale against England on Sunday after being hammered by 100 runs at Lord’s. The visitors’ batting issues cost them the chance to win the series 2-0 as England put up a tough competition and leveled the series at 1-1 thus the two teams will now meet at Old Trafford in Manchester to decide the winner.

and Shikhar Dhawan will need to give the side a powerful start so that the middle order batters can capitalize on that. While Kohli’s form remains to be a concern, he will continue to bat in the top order at No. 3. Middle-order batters Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav will have a big role to play, be it a good start or a bad one.

The duo can be relied upon, and they will have a task to stand up to the team’s expectations as the two have been in good touch in white-ball cricket. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will be the key players in the bowling lineup, whereas Yuzvendra Chahal would look to repeat his heroics from Lord’s.

England have been facing an issue in the batting lineup, as only Moeen Ali stepped up amongst the main batters in the previous two ODIs. Other batters of the top and middle order failed to put up a remarkable show on display. All the big names in the side – Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and even the skipper Jos Buttler – have failed to produce good performances with the bat in both games combined.

The major reason behind England’s win in the second game was the efforts of the bowlers. Reece Topley was the standout performer as he finished with six wickets under his belt and he would be expected to continue traumatizing the Indian batters. Moeen Ali’s all-round abilities may also act as a deciding factor in the final game.

Here's all the stats & approaching milestones you need to know ahead of the third game of the series.

England trounced South Africa by 118 runs in the second ODI in a rain-curtailed affair in Manchester and drew level in the three-match series. The series finale between the two sides will be staged at Headingley in Leeds on Sunday, 24th of July.

English batters stayed true to their tactics of being aggressive from the get-go in white ball cricket and were staring down the barrel after losing their top five batters on the score of 72 after the match was reduced to 29 overs per side. And they were bowled out for 201 after some adept batting by the lower-order batters.

At the halfway mark, the visitors must have been proud of their bowling effort and would have been confident of chasing the total to clinch the series. But the English bowlers took just 23 deliveries to wreck that dream as South Africa lost their top order for just six runs and the match was a mere formality as the Proteas succumbed to an embarrassingly low total of 83 runs.

The final ODI will be an enthralling encounter as England seem to have found their mojo back. They will be eyeing their first series victory under Jos Buttler‘s leadership.

Here are all the stats & approaching milestones you need to know ahead of the final game of the series.

    Pitch and conditions
The surface at Headingley offers variable bounce and assists the seam bowlers to great extent in overcast conditions. The team winning the toss on the previous two occasions have opted to bowl, a trend which might not continue as chasing a decent target on this pitch can be a tad tricky.

    England

The hosts were rescued in the second ODI by their all-rounders, who came up with handy scores with the bat to take England to a respectable total. The English camp is sticking with their all-out attack approach at the top of the order, which hasn’t been fruitful so far under Jos Buttler’s stint.

    Predicted XI: Jason Roy, Jon
