1984: Some Hindus formed a committee under the leadership of Vishwa Hindu Parishad to 'liberate' the birthplace of Lord Rama and build a Ram temple there. Later, the campaign was led by LK Advani, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
1986: Faizabad District Judge allowed Hindus to worship at the disputed site. The locks were reopened. Angry Muslims formed the Babri Masjid Action Committee in protest.
1989: Vishwa Hindu Parishad expedites campaign for construction of Ram temple and lays foundation of Ram temple near disputed site.

1984: कुछ हिंदुओं ने विश्व हिंदू परिषद के नेतृत्व में भगवान राम के जन्म स्थल को 'मुक्त' करने और वहां राम मंदिर का निर्माण करने के लिए एक समिति का गठन किया. बाद में इस अभियान का नेतृत्व भारतीय जनता पार्टी के प्रमुख नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी ने संभाल लिया.
1986: फैजाबाद जिला न्यायाधीश ने विवादित स्थल पर हिदुओं को पूजा की इजाजत दी। ताले दोबारा खोले गए। नाराज मुस्लिमों ने विरोध में बाबरी मस्जिद ऐक्शन कमिटी का गठन किया।
1989: विश्व हिंदू परिषद ने राम मंदिर निर्माण के लिए अभियान तेज़ किया और विवादित स्थल के नज़दीक राम मंदिर की नींव रखी.
