New Delhi :The RBI has decided to implement the check positive pay system from January 1st, 2021. Under the positive pay system, the mode of payment by check is going to change and these changes are being made to stop banking fraud. In this system, payments of more than 50 thousand will be reconfigured. Clearance of checks through positive pay system will also take less time. The person issuing the check will have to re-inform about the date of the check, beneficiary name, recipient and payment amount electronically. The information of the check can be given through SMS, mobile app, internet banking and ATM and the person issuing the check to the third party must send the information of this check to their bank as well. According to the RBI notification, whether or not to avail the facility will depend on the account holder. Banks may consider making it compulsory in case of checks amounting to 5 lakh and above. If a check for a large amount is issued and the bank issuing it does not confirm, then the amount of the check can be on hold to deposit in the account.
