അമേരിക്ക-മെക്‌സിക്കോ അതിര്‍ത്തിയിലെ അരിസോണ സ്വദേശിയായ റാന്‍ഡി ഹെയ്‌സ് എന്ന അറുപതുകാരനാണ് ഡെയമിക്ക് സമ്മാനവുമായെത്തിയത്
ക്രിസ്മസ് സമ്മാനങ്ങള്‍ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു കൊണ്ട് സാന്റാക്ളോസിന് ഒരു കൊച്ചു പെൺകുട്ടി എഴുതിയ കത്തിന് സമ്മാനം ലഭിച്ചു.
ക്രിസ്മസ് സമ്മാനങ്ങള്‍ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു കൊണ്ടുള്ള കത്തുകള്‍ ഇതിനു മുമ്പും സാന്റാക്ലോസ് അപ്പൂപ്പന് മെക്‌സിക്കക്കാരിയായ ഡെമിയ എന്ന കൊച്ചുപെണ്‍കുട്ടി അയച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. എന്നാല്‍ ഒരിക്കല്‍പോലും ആ കത്തുകള്‍ക്ക് മറുപടിയോ സാന്റയില്‍നിന്ന് സമ്മാനങ്ങളോ അവള്‍ക്ക് കിട്ടിയിരുന്നില്ല. എന്നാല്‍ ഇക്കുറി ഒരു അദ്ഭുതം സംഭവിച്ചു. അവള്‍ കത്തിലാവശ്യപ്പെട്ട ക്രിസ്മസ് സമ്മാനങ്ങളുമായി അവളെ കാണാന്‍ ഒരാളെത്തി.
എന്നാല്‍ അത് സാന്റാക്ലോസ് അപ്പൂപ്പനായിരുന്നില്ല.
പകരം അവളുടെ അയല്‍രാജ്യമായ അമേരിക്കയില്‍നിന്നുള്ള മറ്റൊരു അപ്പൂപ്പനായിരുന്നുവെന്നു മാത്രം.

സമ്മാനങ്ങള്‍ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് എഴുതിയ കത്ത് ബലൂണിനൊപ്പമാക്കി ഡെയമി പറത്തിവിടുകയായിരുന്നു. ബലൂണ്‍ പറന്നെത്തിയതാവട്ടെ റാന്‍ഡിയുടെ സ്ഥലത്തായിരുന്നു. പുല്ലിനിടയില്‍ ചുവന്ന നിറമുള്ള എന്തോ ഒന്ന് കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടാണ് തന്റെ വളര്‍ത്തുനായക്കൊപ്പം റാന്‍ഡി അവിടേക്ക് ചെന്നത്. അതൊരു ബലൂണായിരുന്നെന്നും ഒരു പെണ്‍കുട്ടി ക്രിസ്മസ് സമ്മാനങ്ങള്‍ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് സാന്റാ ക്ലോസിനെഴുതിയ കത്തായിരുന്നു അതിനൊപ്പമുള്ളതെന്നും റാന്‍ഡിക്ക് മനസ്സിലായി.
സ്പാനിഷിലായിരുന്നു ഡെയമിയുടെ കത്ത്.
അമേരിക്കന്‍ അതിര്‍ത്തിയില്‍നിന്ന് 32 കിലോമീറ്ററോളം അകലെ, തെക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറായി മെക്‌സിക്കോയിലെ നോഗേല്‍സ് നഗരത്തില്‍നിന്നാകാം കത്തെത്തിയതെന്ന നിഗമനത്തിലായിരുന്നു റാന്‍ഡി. ശക്തമായ കാറ്റില്‍ ബലൂണ്‍ പറന്നുവീണതാകാമെന്നും റാന്‍ഡി മനസ്സിലാക്കി.വസ്ത്രങ്ങളും കളിപ്പാട്ടങ്ങളും മറ്റും ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു കൊണ്ടുള്ളതായിരുന്നു കത്ത്.
തുടര്‍ന്ന് ആ പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയെ കണ്ടെത്തുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെ തനിക്ക് കിട്ടിയ കത്തിനെ കുറിച്ച് റാന്‍ഡി ഫെയസ്ബുക്കില്‍ കുറിപ്പിട്ടു.
