तमिलनाडु में वरदा तूफान ने जबरदस्त तबाही मचाई है. इस तूफान से राज्य में 10 लोगों की मौत होने की खबर है. जिनमें 4 लोग चेन्नई के , 2 कांचीपुरम, 2 तिरुवल्लूर, 1 विल्लूपुरम और 1 मौत नागापट्टनम हुई है... सरकार ने मृतकों के परिजनों को 4-4 लाख रुपये देने का ऐलान किया. बताया जा रहा है कि सोमवार को जब शक्तिशाली तूफान का पहला हिस्सा तट से टकराया, उस वक्त हवा की रफ्तार 120 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटे थी. 'वरदा' के कारण तेज हवाएं चलीं और भारी बारिश हुई...जिसके चलते पूरा तमिलनाडू पानी-पानी हो गया... वरदा तूफ़ान आने की वजह से चेन्नई समेत तटीय इलाक़ों में रात जैसा अंधेरा छा गया था...तेज हवा से सड़कों के आस-पास लगे पेड़ उखड़ गए. कई गाड़ियां पेड़ों के नीचे दब गईं....वरदा तूफ़ान इतना शक्तिशाली था कि चेन्नई में एक पांच सितारा होटल की दीवार में लगे कांच के शीशे टूट गए. वहीं आंध्र प्रदेश में तेल ले जा रहा एक टैंकर सड़क पर पलट गया. वरदा तूफ़ान की वजह से अभी तक 47 आशियाने तबाह हो चुके हैं...हालांकि तमिलनाडु और आंध्र प्रदेश में तबाही मचाने के बाद वरदा कमजोर पड़ गया है. अब वरदा पश्चिम-दक्षिण की ओर बढ़ गया है. एहतियात के तौर चेन्नई, कांचीपुरम, तिरुवुल्लर में स्कूल कॉलेज आज भी बंद रहेंगे...वहीं एनडीआरएफ की टीमें अब राहत और बचाव कार्य में जुटी हैं।

Odisha government issued alerts to the administrative officials of the coastal districts today after the depression over Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm.
“As per the latest prediction of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression over Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclone which will cross Gopalpur coast tonight,” said Odisha Chief Secretary, Aditya Prasad Padhi.
Padhi further informed that districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh and Khurda are likely to experience maximum wind speed of 60 to 70 km/hr gusting up to a speed of 80 km/hr.
“We are alert and each concerned department including electricity has been put on alert and the situation is being closely monitored,” Padhi added.
Official sources said the wind speed in these districts is likely to increase from 5 PM today. As the sea condition is likely to remain rough, fishermen in coastal districts have been warned not to venture into the sea in the next 24 hours.

The first tropical cyclone, Roanu, of the 2016 season in the Bay of Bengal With heavy rains lashing different parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, the India Meteorological Department has issued a cyclone warning for both the states.
