Shimla. A one-day workshop was organized in Shimla today on International Biodiversity Day. The United Nations' International Day for Biological Diversity is observed annually on 22 May worldwide to raise awareness and promote the conservation of biological diversity. The theme for International Biodiversity Day 2023 is From Agreement to Action Build Back Biodiversity. In the program organized in Shimla, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena and Padmashree Nek Ram, keeping in view the biodiversity, said its conservation is necessary.

The names of the Padma awardees have been announced by the central government on January 25, on the eve of Republic Day. The President has approved the conferment of 106 Padma Awards for the year 2023. The list includes 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri. In the agriculture sector, Nek Ram Sharma of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh will also be awarded with Padma Shri. Nek Ram Sharma of Nanj village in Karsog is involved in organic farming and reviving the traditional nine-grain cropping system. On being selected for Padma Shri, he was also honored on the district level Republic Day in Mandi on Thursday.
