देश के अगले मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में न्यायाधीश जेएस खेहर के नाम पर राष्ट्पति ने मुहर लगा दी है। जेएस खेहर न्यायमूर्ति टीएस ठाकुर की जगह लेंगे। अगले साल 4 जनवरी को जस्टिस खेहर को शपथ दिलाई जाएगी। शपथ लेने के साथ ही जस्टिस खेहर देश के 44वें और पहले सिख चीफ जस्टिस होंगे। वहीं जस्टिस खेहर इस पद पर करीब आठ महीने के लिए रहेंगे। अगस्त 2017 में ही उनका कार्यकाल खत्म हो जाएगा। खेहर इससे पहले कई महत्वपूर्ण निर्णयों के लिए जाने जाते हैं। उन्होंने इस साल जनवरी में अरुणाचल प्रदेश में राष्ट्रपति शासन के केंद्र के फैसले को निरस्त किया था। इसके साथ ही सेबी सहारा मामले की भी जस्टिस खेहर ने सुनवाई की थी...और सहारा प्रमुख सुब्रत राय को हिरासत में भेजा था। समान काम के लिए समान वेतन से संबंधित महत्वपूर्ण निर्णय भी जस्टिस खेहर ने ही दिया था। आपको बता दें कि जस्टिस खेहर इससे पहले उत्तराखंड हाईकोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश रह चुके हैं। इसके बाद कर्नाटक हाईकोर्ट के चीफ जस्टिस के तौर पर कार्यभार संभाला। इसके बाद 13 सितंबर, 2011 में उन्हें सुप्रीम कोर्ट का जज बनाया गया।
