Karl Doenitz was born on September 16, 1891 in Berlin, Germany. Being a German naval leader, he was famous for his command of the Kriegsmarine during World War II and for his twenty-three-day term as President of Germany after Adolf Hitler’s suicide.

Doenitz admired Adolph Hitler and was a strong supporter of the National Socialist German Workers' Nazi Party. In 1942, he was given the Knight's Cross and was promoted to admiral. This was quickly followed in 1943 with his promotion to grand admiral. Doenitz succeeded Admiral Raeder as supreme commander of the German navy. After three months, he received the Oak Leaves of the Knight's Cross and on January 30, 1944 he was accorded with the coveted Golden Party Badge for his allegiance to the party..
