What do words like integration, rights, freedom mean to you? To Latetia Bruce Warjri, a young Khasi woman, they mean the world -- a world where she has the freedom to do what she wants to do, to go where she wants to go, a world where she can hold her head high, where she can identify with people despite differences in cultures and backgrounds.

Latetia is pursuing further studies in Law in Delhi University. 'I have met so many people, who are not Khasi, who are not from Shillong...they are just like me,' she says as her eyes twinkle with excitement. 'I have had very fruitful three years.'

She says tribals have rights, but real integration is the 'integration of tribal values into the mainstream.' Khasi tribe from the North East is one of the Scheduled Tribes.

Latetia's story is that of thousands of young migrants who come to Delhi and other metropolitan's in pursuit of higher education, and a better future.

In 2003-04 only 9,143 ST students enrolled for studies in Delhi University. Today 12,546 students study in Delhi University..
