વડોદરાના પાદરાના ઉમરાયા ગામે ગણેશ કેમિકલ કંપનીના એક વાલ્વમાં કોઈ કારણોસર લીકેજ થયું હતું. લીકેજના કારણે કેમિકલ યુક્ત ધુમાડાના ગોટેગોટા ઉઠયા હતા. ઘટનાના પગલે કંપની પાસે લોકોટોળા ઉમટી પડ્યા હતા. લીકેજ થયેલા વાલ્વ માંથી નીકળતો કેમિકલ યુક્ત ધુમાડો જોત જોતામાં વાતવરણમાં ભળી ગયો હતી જેના કારણે કેમિકલ યુક્ત હવા ગામ પ્રવેશતા ગામ લોકોને શ્વાસ લેવામાં તકલીફ પણ પડી હતી.
આ ઘટનાની જાણ ફાયર વિભાગ અને પોલીસને થતા પાદરા પોલીસ અને ફાયર ફાઈટરો ઘટના સ્થળે પહોંચ્યા હતા. ઘટના અંગે પોલીસના કહેવા અનુસાર કેમિકલ કંપનીમાં બહારથી આવેલા સલ્ફ્યુરિક એસિડના ટેન્કરમાંથી એસિડ કંપનીની ટાંકીમાં ખાલી કરવામાં આવતું હતું। તે દરમિયાન કોઈ કારણોસર એસિડની ટાંકી નીચે પડી જતા ટાંકીના વાલ્વમાં લીકેજ સર્જાયું હતું. લીકેજના કારણે સલ્ફ્યુરિક એસિડનો ધુમાડો વાલ્વ માંથી બહાર નીકળ્યો હતો. જો કે આ એસિડિક દુમાડો હોવાના કારણે આસપાસના લોકો દ્વારા નાક બાળવાની કે શ્વાસ લેવામાં તકલીફ પડવાની ફરિયાડો પણ કરવામાં આવી હતી. ફાયર ફાઈટરો દ્વારા જાહેમદ બાદ વાલ્વમાં થયેલા લીકેજને સાંધવા સફળતા મળી હતી. લીકેજ દૂર થતાની સાથે જ ગામના લોકોએ હાશકારો અનુભવ્યો હતો.
