Meditation is the state of total relaxation just sitting doing nothing physically or mentally and the mind not occupied with any thought. At this moment you are egoless and one with existence and that oneness is freedom. When you are egoistic, you feel yourself separate from the existence, live in a separate island. This is the source of all miseries, fear, sorrow and bondage. The oneness is freedom and separation is bondage.
Meditation is the abeyance of the mind in the Self by constant contemplation. When an actor plays the role of a character on the stage, he does not forget his true identity. After the role is over and when makeup is removed, he is again himself. We too are the actors playing different roles on the stage of this world. But we are playing the part so beautifully that we have forgotten our true nature. Meditation is the mean through which we undress our self and realize our original nature as the pure infinite Self.
