Rumours that the Canon 5D Mark III is going to be announced any day are hotting up, with Friday 2 March firmly in the frame for a reveal date and a new set of pictures emerging online.

It had been said that the 28 February was the date of the 5D Mark II upgrade unveiling, but unless Canon is planning to do a late-night reveal, it looks likely that a new date is on the cards. That new date is now being touted as 2 March.

Although somewhat unusual for camera announcements to be made on a Friday, it would make sense considering that the upcoming Focus on Imaging show taking place at the NEC kicks off on Birmingham.

Although not usually a place for key product launches, the Focus show will be offering many UK customers their first opportunity to get their hands on several new cameras already announced this year, such as the Olympus OM-D and Nikon D800.

It's pretty impossible to verify whether the new pictures which have appeared on the CanonRumors site are genuine (after all, everyone is pretty handy with Photoshop these days), it does seem to have put an end to the rumour that the new camera will be called the 5D X.

Rumours of a split in the 5D line were circulating up until last week, but these seem to have quietened down.
