दुनिया में दूसरे सबसे बड़े और पश्चिमी गोलार्द्ध में सबसे बड़े हिंदू मंदिर का अमेरिका के न्यूजर्सी शहर में उद्घाटन किया गया है। 185 एकड़ भूभाग में स्थित यह अक्षरधाम मंदिर 191 फुट ऊंचा है। भगवान स्वामीनारायण को समर्पित मंदिर का निर्माण 2011 में शुरू हुआ था। मंदिर को तैयार होने में 12 साल का समय लगा है और 12,500 लोगों ने मंदिर निर्माण में श्रमदान किया है। अगर कोई अक्षरधाम मंदिर में आएगा तो उसे सामने ब्रह्मकुंड या बावड़ी दिखेगी जिसमें दुनियाभर की 400 अलग-अलग नदियों और झीलों का पानी है। इसमें भारत की गंगा और यमुना नदी का भी पानी है। मंदिर में लगाए गए पत्थरों पर रामायण और महाभारत की कहानी को उकेरा गया है। मंदिर के स्तंभों और दीवार पर 150 से अधिक भारतीय वाद्ययंत्र और सभी प्रमुख नृत्य कलाएं हैं। न्यूजर्सी में अक्षरधाम विश्व स्तर पर तीसरा ऐसा सांस्कृतिक परिसर है। पहला अक्षरधाम 1992 में गुजरात की राजधानी गांधीनगर में बनाया गया था। उसके बाद 2005 में नई दिल्ली में अक्षरधाम बनाया गया था।
