മഴമൂലം സിഡ്നി ടെസ്റ്റിന്റെ അവസാന ദിവസത്തെ കളി വൈകിയതോടെ മത്സരം സമനിലയിലായതായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അഡ്‌ലെയ്ഡ് ടെസ്റ്റിലും മെല്‍ബണ്‍ ടെസ്റ്റിലും നേടിയ വിജയത്തോടെ ഇന്ത്യ 2-1 ന് പരമ്പര സ്വന്തമാക്കി. പെര്‍ത്തില്‍ നടന്ന രണ്ടാം ടെസ്റ്റ് ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയ വിജയിച്ചിരുന്നു. വെളിച്ചക്കുറവും മഴയുമാണ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ മൂന്നാം ടെസ്റ്റ് വിജയത്തിന് തടസം നിന്നത്.ഇതോടെ ഓസീസ് മണ്ണില്‍ ടെസ്റ്റ് പരമ്പര വിജയിക്കുന്ന ആദ്യ ക്യാപ്റ്റനെന്ന ബഹുമതി വിരാട് കോലി സ്വന്തമാക്കി. ഓസീസ് മണ്ണിൽ ടെസ്റ്റ് പരമ്പര വിജയിക്കുന്ന ആദ്യ ഏഷ്യൻ ക്യാപ്റ്റനെന്ന ബഹുമതിയും കോലിക്കാണ്. ഏഴ് ഇന്നിങ്‌സുകളില്‍ നിന്ന് 521 റണ്‍സെടുത്ത ചേതേശ്വര്‍ പൂജാരയാണ് പരമ്പരയിലെ താരം. പരമ്പരയിലാകെ 1867 മിനിറ്റാണ് പൂജാര ക്രീസില്‍ നിന്നത്. 1258 പന്തുകളും താരം നേരിട്ടു.
നാലാം ക്രിക്കറ്റ് ടെസ്റ്റിന്റെ അഞ്ചാം ദിവസത്തെ ആദ്യ സെഷന്‍ മഴമൂലം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചതോടെയാണ് മത്സരം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കാനുള്ള തീരുമാനം വന്നത്.
നാലാം ദിവസത്തെ കളിയും മഴ തടസപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു.
ഫോളോ ഓണ്‍ ചെയ്യുന്ന ഓസീസ് നാലാം ദിവസം വെളിച്ചക്കുറവു മൂലം കളി അവസാനിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ വിക്കറ്റ് നഷ്ടപ്പെടാതെ ആറു റണ്‍സെന്ന നിലയിലായിരുന്നു. നാലാം ദിനം വെറും 25.2 ഓവറുകള്‍ മാത്രമാണ് കളി നടന്നത്.
അതേസമയം 30 വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ശേഷമാണ് ഓസീസ് നാട്ടില്‍ ഫോളോ ഓണ്‍ വഴങ്ങുന്നത്. 1988-ല്‍ ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിനോട് ഫോളോ ഓണ്‍ ചെയ്യേണ്ടി വന്നതിനു പിന്നാലെ മുപ്പതു വര്‍ഷക്കാലത്തെ ടെസ്റ്റ് ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ ഓസീസ് നാട്ടില്‍ ഫോളോ ഓണ്‍ ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല. നേരത്തെ മെല്‍ബണില്‍ നടന്ന മൂന്നാം ക്രിക്കറ്റ് ടെസ്റ്റിലും ഓസീസിനെ ഫോളോ ഓണ്‍ ചെയ്യിക്കാന്‍ അവസരം ലഭിച്ചെങ്കിലും വിരാട് കോലി രണ്ടാമത് ബാറ്റ് ചെയ്യാന്‍ തീരുമാനിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
ഒന്നാം ഇന്നിങ്സില്‍ ഓസീസിനെ 300 റണ്‍സിന് പുറത്താക്കിയ ഇന്ത്യ 322 റണ്‍സിന്റെ ലീഡ് സ്വന്തമാക്കിയിരുന്നു. അഞ്ചു വിക്കറ്റ് വീഴ്ത്തിയ ചൈനാമാന്‍ കുല്‍ദീപ് യാദവാണ് ഓസീസിനെ തകര്‍ത്തത്. മഴ മൂലം നാലാം ദിനത്തിലെ ആദ്യ സെഷന്‍ മുഴുവന്‍ നഷ്ടമായിരുന്നു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് മത്സരം ആരംഭിച്ചതിനു .
