We’ve made much ado about our limited environmental successes. Most specifically, about not only maintaining, but increasing our population of tigers. The Environmental Minister, Prakash Javadekar boasted of a 30% population increase . And the Prime Minister Modi declared 'about a 40% increase. Feels good to hear it!'

Both of these appear to be wild exaggerations. Valmik Thapar, wildlife conversationalist, explains that the number of tigers may not have increased at all. All that has, in fact, changed, is our method of counting them.
