ട്രെയിന്‍ 18 എന്ന് പേരിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ട്രെയിന്‍ അടുത്ത മാസം മുതല്‍ ട്രയല്‍ റണ്‍ ആരംഭിക്കുമെന്ന് റെയില്‍വേ അറിയിച്ചു. പരിശീലന ഓട്ടം വിജയകരമായി പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കിയാല്‍ ട്രെയിന്‍ 18 സര്‍വ്വീസ് ആരംഭിക്കുമെന്ന് റെയില്‍വേ അറിയിച്ചു. മെട്രോ ട്രെയിനുകള്‍ക്ക് സമാനമായ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയാണ് ഈ ട്രെയിനുകളില്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുക. ലോക്കോമോട്ടീവ് എഞ്ചിനുകള്‍ക്ക് പകരം ഓരോ കോച്ചിനും അടിയില്‍ പിടിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ട്രാക്ഷന്‍ മോട്ടോറുകളാണ് എഞ്ചിനുകളായി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുക. ചെന്നൈയിലെ ഇന്റഗ്രല്‍ കോച്ച് ഫാക്ടറി മേക്ക് ഇന്‍ ഇന്ത്യാ പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായി നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച ‘ട്രെയിന്‍ 18’ മണിക്കൂറില്‍ 160 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ വേഗത്തില്‍ സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നവയാണ്. ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള ആറെണ്ണം നിര്‍മ്മിക്കുമെന്നാണ് ഇന്റഗ്രല്‍ കോച്ച് ഫാക്ടറി അറിയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഇവയില്‍ രണ്ടെണ്ണം സ്ലീപ്പര്‍ കോച്ചുകളായിരിക്കും.ഇന്ത്യന്‍ റെയില്‍വേയുടെ സാങ്കേതിക ഉപദേഷ്ടാക്കളായ റിസര്‍ച്ച് ഡിസൈന്‍ ആന്റ് സ്റ്റാന്‍ഡേര്‍ഡ്‌സ് ഓര്‍ഗനൈസേഷന്‍ (ആര്‍എസ്ഡിഒ) ആണ് ട്രയല്‍ റണ്‍ നടത്തി ട്രെയിനുകളുടെ ക്ഷമത ഉറപ്പ് വരുത്തുക.

തദ്ദേശീയമായി വികസിപ്പിച്ച എഞ്ചിന്‍രഹിത സെമി-ഹൈ സ്പീഡ് ട്രെയിനിന്റെ പരീക്ഷണയോട്ടം ആരംഭിച്ചു.
'ട്രെയിന്‍ 18' എന്ന പേരിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ട്രെയിന്‍ ബറേലി-മൊറാദാബാദ് മേഖലയിലാണ് പരീക്ഷണയോട്ടം നടത്തിയത്.ചെന്നൈയിലെ ഇന്റഗ്രല്‍ കോച്ച് ഫാക്ടറിലായാണ് 16 ബോഗികളുള്ള എഞ്ചിന്‍രഹിത ട്രെയിന്‍ നിര്‍മിച്ചത്. 160 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ വേഗതയാണ് നിര്‍മാതാക്കള്‍ നിര്‍ദേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്കിലും 180 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ വേഗത്തിലും പരീക്ഷണയോട്ടം നടത്തിയിരുന്നു.
2018ല്‍ നിര്‍മിക്കാന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയതു കൊണ്ടാണ് ഇതിന് ട്രെയിന്‍-18 എന്ന പേര് ലഭിച്ചത്
ഓട്ടോമാറ്റിക് വാതിലുകളും പടികളും ഉള്ള കോച്ചുകളില്‍ വൈ ഫൈ സംവിധാനം ജിപിഎസ് അടിസ്ഥാന പാസഞ്ചര്‍ ഇന്‍ഫര്‍മേഷന്‍ സംവിധാനം, ബയോ വാക്വം സിസ്റ്റത്തോട് കൂടിയ ടോയ്ലെറ്റ് സംവിധാനം തുടങ്ങിയവ ഉണ്ടാകും. മുഴുവനായി ശീതീകരിച്ച വണ്ടിയില്‍ യൂറോപ്യന്‍ രീതിയില്‍ രൂപകല്‍പന ചെയ്ത, യാത്രികര്‍ക്ക് ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള രീതിയില്‍ ക്രമീകരിക്കാവുന്ന സീറ്റുകളാണ് ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.രണ്ടറ്റത്തും ഡ്രൈവറുടെ കാബിനുള്ള വണ്ടി മെട്രോ ട്രെയിന്‍ പോലെ ഏതു ഭാഗത്തേക്കും ഓടിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയും.
എല്ലാ കോച്ചുകളുടെ അടിഭാഗത്തും വൈദ്യുതി സ്വീകരിച്ച് അതിനകത്തെ സംവിധാനങ്ങള്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുന്നു എന്നതാണ് പ്രത്യേകത.
