മൈസൂരുവില്‍നിന്ന് 90 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ അകലെ മാണ്ഡ്യയിലെ മദ്ദൂര്‍ താലൂക്കിലുള്ള ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തില്‍ പൂച്ചകളെ ആരാധിക്കാന്‍ പ്രത്യേക ക്ഷേത്രവുമുണ്ട്. മാണ്ഡ്യ-തുമകുരു ജില്ലകളുടെ അതിര്‍ത്തിയിലാണ് ഈ ഗ്രാമം. മഹാലക്ഷ്മിയുടെ പ്രതിരൂപമെന്നനിലയിലാണ് ഗ്രാമവാസികള്‍ പൂച്ചകളെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നത്. ലക്ഷ്മീദേവി ഗ്രാമത്തിലേക്ക് പൂച്ചയുടെ രൂപത്തില്‍ കടന്നുവന്നെന്നും തുടര്‍ന്ന് ആപത്തുകളില്‍നിന്നുള്ള രക്ഷകയായി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചെന്നുമാണ് ഗ്രാമവാസികളുടെ വിശ്വാസം.
1000 വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കുമുമ്പെങ്കിലും ഈ ആരാധന തുടങ്ങിയെന്ന് വിശ്വാസികള്‍ പറയുന്നു.അടുത്തടുത്തായി നിര്‍മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന മൂന്നുക്ഷേത്രങ്ങള്‍ കൂടിച്ചേര്‍ന്നതാണ് പൂച്ചകള്‍ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന മങ്കമ്മാ ക്ഷേത്രം. ്. പൂച്ചയുടെ വിഗ്രഹമാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ.എണ്ണൂറോളം കുടുംബങ്ങളുള്ള ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ ഭൂരിഭാഗം വീടുകളിലും ഒന്നോ അതിലധികമോ പൂച്ചകളെ കാണാന്‍ സാധിക്കും. വീടുകളിലും പൂച്ചകളെ പൂജിക്കും. ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ ആരും പൂച്ചകളെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കാറില്ല. അഥവാ അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുന്നവരെ ഗ്രാമത്തില്‍നിന്ന് പുറത്താക്കും. ഗ്രാമത്തില്‍ പൂച്ചയുടെ ജഡം ആരെങ്കിലും കണ്ടെത്തിയാല്‍ അത് സംസ്‌കരിക്കാതെ, കണ്ടെത്തിയയാള്‍ സ്ഥലംവിട്ടുപോവാനും പാടില്ല.
60 വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കുമുമ്പാണ് ഇന്നത്തെനിലയില്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം പുതുക്കിപ്പണിതത്. എല്ലാ ചൊവ്വാഴ്ചയും ഇവിടെ പൂജ നടക്കും.
