ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ തടിക്കെട്ടിടം ജപ്പാനില്‍ ഒരുങ്ങുന്നു. 2041 ൽ കെട്ടിടം പൂർത്തിയാകും
1,148 അടി (350മീറ്റര്‍) ഉയരമാണ് ഈ കെട്ടിടത്തിനുള്ളത്. ഷോപ്പുകള്‍, വീടുകള്‍, ഓഫീസുകള്‍, ഹോട്ടലുകള്‍ എന്നിവയുള്ള ഈ കെട്ടിടം 2041ല്‍ പൂര്‍ത്തിയാകുമെന്നാണ് പ്രതീക്ഷ. നഗരത്തെ ഒരു കാടിനുള്ളിലേക്ക് പറിച്ചു നടുക എന്നതായിരിക്കും ഈ കെട്ടിടത്തിന്റെ ആശയം. ജപ്പാന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ ടോക്കിയോയില്‍ നിര്‍മ്മിക്കുന്ന കെട്ടിടത്തിന് 5.9 ബില്യണ്‍ ഡോളറാണ് ചിലവ് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്.
ടോക്കിയോ ആസ്ഥാനമായ നിക്കെന്‍ സിക്കി എന്ന ആര്‍ക്കിടെക്ചര്‍ സ്ഥാപനമാണ് കെട്ടിടം രൂപകല്‍പ്പന ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. ജപ്പാന്റെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ബിസിനസ് സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിലൊന്നായ സുമിത്തോ ഗ്രൂപ്പിന്റെ ഫോറസ്ട്രി വിഭാഗമാണ് കെട്ടിടം നിര്‍മ്മിക്കുന്നത്. ഉയരത്തിന്റെ അനുസരിച്ച് W350 പദ്ധതിയെന്നാണ് ഇതിന് പേര് നല്‍കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. എന്നാല്‍ ഏത് തരം തടികളാണ് നിര്‍മ്മാണത്തിന് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് വ്യക്തമല്ല.
തടിയും സ്റ്റീലും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നിര്‍മ്മിക്കുന്ന ഈ കെട്ടിടത്തിന് 70 നിലകളാണുള്ളത്.
6.5 മില്യണ്‍ ക്യൂബിക് തടിയാണ്. അതായത് 90% തടിയിലാണ് നിര്‍മ്മിക്കുന്നത്. ജപ്പാനില്‍ തുടര്‍ച്ചയായി ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന ഭൂകമ്പത്തെയും ശക്തമായ കാറ്റിനെയും ചെറുക്കുന്നതിന് കെട്ടിടത്തിന്റെ പുറംവശങ്ങളില്‍ ട്യൂബ് സ്ട്രെക്ച്ചറുകള്‍ നിര്‍മ്മിക്കാനാണ് നിക്കെന്‍ സിക്കിയുടെ പദ്ധതി. ഓഫീസുകള്‍, ഹോട്ടലുകള്‍, ഷോപ്പുകള്‍ എന്നിവ കൂടാതെ ഗാര്‍ഡന്‍ റൂഫ്, പച്ചപ്പ് നിറഞ്ഞ ബാല്‍ക്കണി, വെള്ളം, സൂര്യപ്രകാശം ധാരാളം കിട്ടുന്ന തുറന്ന അകത്തളം എന്നിവയും ഈ കെട്ടിടത്തിലുണ്ട്.കാനഡയിലെ വാന്‍കോവറിലെ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് കൊളംബിയ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയില്‍ വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥികളുടെ താമസത്തിനായി നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച 174 അടി(53 മീറ്റര്‍)ഉയരമുള്ള ബ്രോക്ക് കോമ്മണ്‍സ് ടോള്‍വുഡ് ഹൗസാണ് നിലവില്‍ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരമുള്ള തടിക്കെട്ടിടം. ലോകത്തുള്ള എല്ലാ ആര്‍ക്കിടെക്ച്ചര്‍ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിളും നിര്‍മ്മാണത്തിന് തടിയാണ് പ്രധാന നിര്‍മ്മാണ വസ്തുവായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്.
